16 x 20 – oil on canvas
SOLD – Commissioned portrait
This painting was commissioned by Squeaky’s owners for their home. They wanted a realistic portrait of their pet that showed off her long tail and her adorable face. I worked from two different photographs to get this pose – one of her walking (but her head was turned) and the other a close-up of her face. The challenge was to combine both photos seamlessly. This was a lot of fun to paint because of the different markings on Squeaky. She truly is a unique and beautiful kitty.
I completed this portrait over a week or so using the glazing technique (wet on dry), which is different from my usual alla prima (wet on wet) weekly paintings. By doing so, I was able to capture all the fine details and nuances that make up Squeaky, and were very important to her owners. They approved the painting today with big thumbs up! YAY!
To commission a portrait of your beloved pet, email me and let’s talk about it.
Until next time…
