At my “Understanding Tonal Values” workshop at Arlene’s, I realized that I forgot my large pastel box. Luckily, I had my handy Terry Ludwig Basic Landscapes set with me – so I was able to get this demo done. I needed the tree stand to be darker than the darkest dark I had, so I decided to do an oil wash there. I am pretty pleased with how it all came together.
I have a few upcoming shows this Fall, so it’s going to be a busy couple months in the studio. I plan on completing a few larger works, and this one is a great size. I’m calling it “Linger” because I wanted to stay and savor this amazing light at sunset on the beautiful Hudson River.
Here’s the postcard for my next group show at The Laffer Gallery titled “Nurture Nature” :
It’s so wonderful to be showing with these artists whom I admire greatly.
Please mark your calendars for the opening reception. It’s on Saturday, 9/10 from 5 – 8 PM. Hope to see you there!
This is the third submission to the 10×10 show at Saratoga Arts. I saw this beautiful little clearing on my bike ride. The light was absolutely brilliant in contrast with the shadowy foreground, so I had to capture it.
Here’s another painting currently being shown at my two-person show at Clement Art Gallery; Peace of Nature. I am excitedly looking forward to the opening this evening from 6 – 9 PM. I hope to see you there!
Here’s the first painting of this month’s Creative February challenge. A bit about this project: A couple years ago, I had the idea to give myself a gift for my Birthday… the gift of time to create art every day for my birthday month. My friend, and amazing artist, Kate Edwards share my birthday so I asked her to join me! Happily, she agreed, and we got to work. I loved seeing her post her pieces, and they inspired me to keep going. That year we had a show at the Spring Street Gallery with all the work we produced for the month. It was great!
This is our third year, and I thought we’d open it up to other makers who’d like to join us. It doesn’t have to be your birthday month to participate! Here’s what you have to do:
Create something, anything, (drawing, knitting, collage, photo, illustration, painting, music, poetry… you get the picture) each day (most days) from 2/1 – 2/29.
Take a pic/video, post it to your blog (if you have one), Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, and use the tag #CreativeFebruary to share!

I had a Color Harmonies workshop today at Saratoga Arts, despite feeling a bit under the weather with a cold. It was a great day that went by all too quickly, and I forgot to take many pictures. This one was my oil demo and number 23! Only a few more days to go in the Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.
This is a piece recently completed from a workshop demo study.
I love this place. It’s the new Round Lake nature preserve on Anthony Kill. Here’s the painting framed, and ready to add to your collection!
It is currently being exhibited at Saratoga Arts for our Annual Members Show, opening this weekend, 11/14. There will also be a reception on 12/4 from 6-8 PM. It’s free and open to the public, so please come out to support your local artists, and art organization. I hope you can join us!
