Creative February 2020: Day 19

It is easy to be distracted by the incredible views of the high peaks and miss these hardy, but fragile alpine plants. Captured here is the Lapland Rosebay – a vibrant survivor at the top of the world.

Summit Stewards have been educating the public about alpine ecosystems, maintaining trails above treeline, and performing scientific research on the state’s tallest summits for the last 31 years. The Nature Conservancy helped build this program with the help of the Adirondack Mountain Club and the Department of Environmental Conservation. Have you met a Steward?
